Quick Update

We saw our son 2 weekends ago, and had a great visit. But, we always have great visits. We talked a little bit about his relapse, but not a lot. I am no longer thinking too far in the future. I've come a long way with my expectations. He was doing great the day I saw him, and that's all I know. I rely on God every second of the day to give me strength to take care of myself and to be the person He wants me to be. I praise God for the peace I feel today.

Please visit Heathersmom, you'll see her on my blog list. I wish her, and all of you, the very best in the healing of our kids/spouses/selves as we deal with the insidious disease of addiction.

  1. I just visited Heather's Mom and left a mile-long comment. We will visit our daughter (in treatment) tomorrow. We have a half hour. And next visit is in two weeks. (The middle week, her boy friend gets the full two hour period, -grin!).

You write a very uplifting post, I love the prayer-choice at the top, that really covers it all.

Peeps like you can be--and ARE--very helpful to those who are still living in that less-than-peaceful place, where reliance on God is the only solution left. Thank you for your experience, strength, and hope.

  3. I wrote a comment, hit something by accident and the comment either went for your approval or I deleted it. :(

If I deleted it, here goes again. Life is full of ups and downs. I take the positive feelings of the up times and put them in the spiritual and emotional savings account of my soul to draw on when there are down times.

When the down times come, I draw on those memories and know they can happen again. I also rely heavily on prayer and my Al-Anon and Alcoholics Anonymous programs.

Welcome to my blog. I love meeting new bloggers when they become followers/comment.

    Love and prayers,
    PG

  4. I like that you are no longer thinking too far into the future. If the present is good, enjoy.

  5. I agree with Madison, no longer thinking too far ahead keeps us sane! Thanks for sharing the new blog, too bad our group has to grow but also a blessing to have one another. Glad your visits are good with your son, one more thing to be grateful for.

  6. Madison posted that she just emptied her home of some material things. Your prayer was good timing - now she has room for "better things, things that last and never fade away".

I love having new "hurting parents" join our group - it is healing for me to help when possible and to gain knowledge/insight from them!

  7. Chai-first I want to thank you for your kind words on my blog today. I'm glad that I'm helping you with your cooking! I'm really trying to share recipes and hints that are easy for the novice and taste good enough for company. Once in a while I may throw in something complicated...but, not often. I love to cook but there are just 2 of us home now and I rarely want to spend all day cooking for just us.

I'm glad to read that you are taking care of yourself. I don't have much experience in this area. As I think I've mentioned, my son spent a month in rehab...more to learn how alcohol fueled his temper. He wasn't addicted to the alcohol...more to the power the anger gave him if that makes sense.
